The Transfiguration of Christ

In the traditional and ancient calendars of the church, August 6 marks the Feast of the Transfiguration of Christ - the event in our Lord's life where he was transfigured on the mountain before Peter, James, and John such that " his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering" (Luke 9:29).

It is from this incredibly important event in our Lord's life that our parish draws its name.  As has become our tradition, we are transferring our parish celebration of the feast to the closest Sunday so that we may more fully celebrate our feast of title.  We will keep the feast this coming Sunday - August 9 during our normal Sunday service.

As we have done in year's past, a celebratory pot-luck reception will be held at the rectory (85 Columbia Ave - just two houses down from the church) immediately following the Sunday service.

The church will provide a deli sandwich platter and drinks.  Please bring a dish to share if you are able (if not, please come anyway).

Collect for the Transfiguration of Christ:

O God, who on the mount didst reveal to chosen witnesses thine only-begotten Son wonderfully transfigured, in raiment white and glistering; Mercifully grant that we, being delivered from the disquietude of this world, may be permitted to behold the King in his beauty, who with thee, O Father, and thee, O Holy Ghost, liveth and reigneth, one God, world without end. Amen. (BCP, p. 247)
